Growing up, I didn’t know what I wanted to be. Sure, I had ideal concepts – doctor, scientist, veterinarian, but I never considered law. Not knowing anyone who was part of the legal fraternity didn’t really help either. 

I started studying law on a whim, hoping it would be my calling. For the longest time, I thought it was. I understood it. It made logical sense. Most importantly, I enjoyed it. It was only later (after considerable introspection and many questionable days) that I realised that it was not law that I enjoyed, but the underlying nature of it. It forces me to be analytical and creative at the same time. Legislation is riddled with exceptions and exemptions. It is constantly shifting and adapting - a moving target. It is by all accounts, an oxymoron and I enjoy trying to figure it out. I enjoy finding solutions that are commercially viable. 

It is because of the above that I could not be happier in the commercial department at Phatshoane Henney Attorneys. I specialise in taxation, corporate restructuring and company law.  Each day I am faced with challenges and questions begging for solutions. There is nothing more satisfying that implementing a structure that is both commercially viable and within the boundaries of the law.
