Douglas is a founding member of Phatshoane Henney Attorneys and a Director of the Property Practice Group of the firm where he heads up the Practice Group, and has more than 25 years’ experience in various fields of law. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the firm. Douglas is a founding member and current chair of the Phatshoane Henney Group, South Africa’s largest association of independent law firms, founded in 2006. He started his career as a litigator but later moved into property law where he remains to date and provides specialist services in various property-related disciplines.

 
Douglas acts as a preferred service provider to large financial institutions, municipalities and parastatals, providing property related services. He has also acted as legal advisor on a number of government projects for provincial and national government departments, which include infrastructure development projects, land-, legal- and procurement reviews and other advisory services.

Douglas is a member of the Free State Law Society’s Examination Panel for Notarial Practice and has for 10 years been involved in assessing attorneys writing their notarial examinations. He also accepts appointments as trustee and liquidator in insolvent estates, trusts, liquidated companies and close corporations, and administers such in terms of relevant legislation.

Douglas believes that high standards of service, providing exceptional solutions to clients, and an intimate involvement in the management of the firm and the Property Practice Group assists in strengthening the relationship between the firm and its clients and helping to position the Property Practice Group of the firm as a leading property practice.

Douglas is an avid jazz aficionado and enjoys listening to jazz when not spending time with his family.
