Herman is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group who specialises in Civil Litigation particularly Civil Arbitrations, the High Court and Magistrates’ Court focusing on contractual disputes and the recovery of damages and debts. He is passionate about the terms and conditions that govern contracts and enjoys the detailed nature of contractual disputes.

Herman is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group at Phatshoane Henney Attorneys.

Herman has supported moot and related events on the University of the Free State’s Bloemfontein campus, and remains involved with the moot society, Legal Behemoth, which he chaired in his final year. He represented the University of the Free State at three international moot competitions during his time as a student, twice at the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria and once at the All Africa Human Rights Moot in Mauritius, where he placed third among all the individual speakers present.

Prior to joining Phatshoane Henney Attorneys, Herman was appointed as a part-time lecturer for Commercial and Labour Law at the Central University of Technology, an experience he immensely enjoyed. Further, while he was a research assistant at the University of the Free State, he offered classes in a number of modules including Roman Law.

Herman commenced his articles in our Commercial Practice Group in 2020, where he developed a passion for corporate, contract and commercial legal work that has stuck with him even as he entered the dispute resolution arena.

Herman focuses on Civil Arbitrations, the High Court and Magistrates’ Court specifically dealing with corporate and contractual disputes as well as the recovery of damages and debts. The corporate management of and disputes between persons involved in trusts, companies and other businesses structures fall squarely within his passion for corporate work.

Major contractual disputes in adjudications, arbitrations and the high court are his primary focus, whether relating construction projects, development projects, the provision of services or supply agreements.

Delving into the complicated nature of disputes in a corporate and business environment ensures that his interest in detail-oriented work is part of his daily work life and drives him to provide the very best of advice to his clients in all his cases. He believes that there is no substitute for hard work and dedication and that remaining available to clients is of the utmost importance, especially considering that the business world never sleeps.

The motto, “A healthy body means a healthy mind” is what drives him in his day-to-day life. He enjoys reading and jogging in his spare time, and believes in order to be happy, it's necessary to lead a well-balanced life.
