Vacation programme: Shaping future legal minds

08 July 2025 21

At PH Attorneys, we believe in investing in the future of the legal profession — and our 2025 Vacation Work Programme is a testament to that commitment. This year, we had the privilege of welcoming six promising second- and third-year law students from the University of the Free State for a week-long journey of learning.

A week of practical learning
Led by our experienced professionals, the programme offered students first-hand insight into the legal world across a variety of practice areas. Each day presented a new theme, allowing students to deepen their understanding of how legal theory meets real-world practice:

  • Day 1: A warm welcome by CEO Lesley Mokgoro, setting the tone for a week of high-level engagement and professional development.
  • Day 2: In-depth sessions with our Property and Commercial Law teams, exploring Company Law, Compliance, Tax basics, legal drafting, and an introduction to Conveyancing and Notarial practice.
  • Day 3: A focus on Dispute Resolution and Labour Law, including practical exposure to Magistrates’ Court processes and a visit to the CCMA, offering invaluable insight into client consultations and legal procedures.
  • Day 4: A visit to the Supreme Court of Appeal, High Court, and Advocate Chambers, guided by our litigation experts. Students also attended an insightful session on Family Law, further expanding their legal awareness.
  • Day 5: The week concluded with a Debate competition, led by Senior Associate Herman du Randt, where students demonstrated their advocacy skills and applied the legal knowledge gained throughout the week.

Real stories. Real impact.
The programme was more than just a learning experience.
Here’s what some of our students had to say:

"The vacation programme pushed me way out of my comfort zone, but I loved it because that is how growth happens. I learnt a lot about Law and the different fields, but I also made new connections."
– Boniswa Mini

"Not to sound unprofessional, but I had an absolute blast! Everyone at PH Attorneys went far and beyond to 'pierce the legal veil' and bring the law to life. The week has encouraged me to work even harder at my studies and become the best attorney I can be."
– Marlè Beukes

Looking ahead
We are proud of the impact this programme had on both our students and our team. We remain committed to mentorship, skills development, and excellence in legal education.

To the six students who joined us — thank you for your energy, curiosity, and professionalism. We look forward to seeing the incredible contributions you will make to the legal profession.
