New Breed Art Competition: The Golden Door to a career in art

The New Breed Art competition emerged from PH Attorneys’ shared passion for excellence and creativity which in turn demanded the recognition of these traits in other disciplines. So, an art competition was born with art a universal medium through which boundaries and perceptions can be moved – of audience and artist alike - and challenging us to evolve. The New Breed Art Competition provides a platform for discovering and celebrating a new breed of artists, reminding us of the power of creativity.

Now in its eighth year, New Breed Art is proud to share some of the exciting developments in winners’ art careers.

Neo Theku’s art boldly addresses the escalating crisis of mental health struggles, depression, and suicide plaguing our youth today. His awe-inspiring artwork titled Suicide landed him the ultimate victory as the champion of our 2019 New Breed Art competition.

We are thrilled to announce that his latest work in his 'ASYLUMISM' series has been acquired by the Art Bank of South Africa and is now on display at the '𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺' exhibition at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein.

Not only that, but Neo was also a finalist in the Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize competition and has joined the Escap3 gallery, an online-only Contemporary Fine Art Gallery.

At New Breed Art, we are proud to have been a part of the start of Neo Theku's remarkable career. As Neo once said, "Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up". We believe that his hard work, passion, and dedication to his craft have made him a true champion in the art world.

When questioned about the significance of the New Breed competition for his career, he articulated, “The New Breed Art Competition (NBAC) has been instrumental in shaping my career as an artist. It introduced me to a community of people who believed in me, even when I doubted myself. Through the support and guidance of individuals such as Karen Brusch, Pauline Gutter, and the Art Bank of SA, I was able to grow as an artist and develop my skills.”

“But the NBAC did more than just provide me with a support system. It opened up new opportunities for me and challenged me to push myself creatively. Before the competition, I had always been hesitant to enter my art into competitions. I thought that the only purpose of such events was to win a prize. However, the NBAC's winners' exhibition showed me that there was much more to these contests than just the potential for monetary gain. Instead, the exhibition inspired me to create more art and helped me find my signature style.”

“As a result of the NBAC, I am now more confident in my abilities as an artist and know what I want to achieve in the industry. The competition opened the golden door of my career and has provided me with a launching pad for success. I am forever grateful for the opportunities and support that the NBAC has given me, and I know that it will continue to shape my career for years to come.”

Upon unveiling his 'ASYLUMISM' collection, Neo intends to hold his inaugural solo exhibition and increase sales of his artwork.
We congratulate Neo on his recent achievements and look forward to seeing more of his awe-inspiring works in the future. With his talent and determination, we have no doubt that Neo Theku is destined for greatness.
