They say that nothing comes easy in life. In fact, even Santa comes with a clause – and clauses are something that you encounter in abundance in commercial law, whether you have to draft it, interpret it or advise on it. I experience a commercial law practice as the one place where my love for words, structure and new challenges come perfectly together.
I recently joined the commercial department of Phatshoane Henney Attorneys as a junior associate and love the fact that each day is multifaceted. Corporate and commercial law is exciting as well as complex and it evolves at such a rapid pace that each day is a learning experience. “Never a dull moment” rings quite true for the average day of a commercial lawyer.
I work on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions which include corporate restructuring, general commercial contract drafting and fiduciary work (all things will and trust related). I especially enjoy the drafting of unique agreements and would definitely compare a complex, well drafted agreement to a piece of artwork.
Balancing my personal life with my corporate work life is important to me. I place a high premium on my personal time and love to spend it socialising with friends and family, hanging out with a stocky bull terrier named Sophia and sometimes just taking a walk through the bonsai-section of our local garden centre.
