Before tasting the sweet joy of winning the 2017 Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition, Mandi-Anne Bezuidenhout, has had to overcome many personal challenges.

Mandi-Anne Bezuidenhout has been announced as the overall winner of the 2017 Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition at a prestigious awards ceremony held at Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein.

Following the official opening of the 2017 Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition exhibition at Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein on 5 October, the public can now cast their vote for their favourite artist to win the Public Choice Award.

A unique silkscreen self-portrait of Petra Schutte had captured the judges of the 2016 Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition to such an extent that it was regarded as one of the top entries from last year.

A magnificently detailed artistic creation consisting of nine white porcelain birds, each mounted in its own wood-and-glass box, has bestowed on Toni Pretorius (32) the title of overall winner of the very first Phatshoane Henney New Breed Competition in November last year.

Following months of preparation and weeks of waiting to hear who the selected artists are whose works have been chosen for exhibition in Oliewenhuis Art Museum, and whose works are in line to be announced as winner on 17 November, these artworks are on show from 20 October to 27 November, writes Elretha Britz in Volksblad and Netwerk24.
