How to get a protection order against your harassing ex

I have an ex who is harassing me in person and on social media after we broke up a few... weeks ago. The more I make it clear to him that we are done the more aggressive he gets and the uglier comments he makes on social media. I’m really scared to go out and run into him and I am so ashamed of everything he is saying on social media. I want him to stop, but I don’t have the money to go and see a lawyer. Can you tell me what to do?

Can one email constitute harassment?

At work one of my colleagues recently replied to an email that I had sent to him in a terribly... derogatory fashion, calling me names and insulting me in a very chauvinistic fashion. He sent his reply to me and many of my colleagues and I am ashamed by what he said and how he riduculed me as a woman in front of my colleagues. I feel victimized by his conduct. But what can I do, it was just an email?

About a month ago a person started sending me inappropriate e-mails and posting lewd comments and messages on my Facebook... and Google Plus pages. I’ve tried blocking the person and telling them to stop, but he or she keeps changing their email address and user profile and keeps coming back. I don’t even want to look at my phone or computer anymore. Is there anything I can do?

More protection for the victims of harassment

The Protection from Harassment Act 17 of 2011 came into operation on 27 April 2013, and provides specific legislative protection... for persons who are the victims of harassment. This legislation provides a complainant with the ability to obtain a protection order and a warrant of arrest which can be enforced in the event of the unwanted conduct continuing.
