A total of 54 artworks will be showcased during the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition Exhibition at Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein, with the official opening taking place on 18 October 2018.

This is the largest number of artworks being selected to form part of the official competition exhibition since the competition’s inception in 2016. This only toughens the competition, as of these only five artists can emerge as the 2018 competition winners.

The 54 works were selected after the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition judging panel narrowed down the just over 130 entries received from all over the Free State. The result is a real treat, with a wide variety of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramic, cement and mixed media artworks being on show at Oliewenhuis Art Museum from 18 October to 25 November 2018.

The physical exhibition will also be accompanied by an online exhibition on the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition website at www.newbreedart.co.za, showing all 54 artworks and the respective artists’ profiles. In addition, the official competition Facebook page (@PhatshoaneHenneyNewBreedArtCompetition) will keep artists and art aficionados alike abreast of all the latest competition developments.

The public will also play an active part in determining one of the five competition winners. The Public Choice Award will go to the artist who receives the most online votes on the official art competition website and will receive R10 000 in prize money.

Of the rest of the R100 000 prize money, R50 000 will be awarded to the winner, R20 000 to the Runner-up and R10 000 each to two Merit Award winners, as decided by the judges.

The winners will be announced on 8 November 2018.
