Description:
The image is of an ardent homeless Springbok supporter.

Despite his grim social circumstances the Supporter demonstrates his passion for the Springbok national rugby team. The humour of the eccentric dress attire is starkly contrasted with the complex social circumstances of the itinerant. The Supporter is captured in the space he calls home which he shares with one other outdoor dweller.

Their concrete square which serves as a multi-purpose home contrasts ironically with the middle class suburban homes in the background. His meticulous apparel contradicts his dire social circumstances which are reflected in the sparse belongs in the background. A recently completed bath’s waste water is emptied into the adjoining “garden”.

The action raises questions of how and where water is acquired; prompting questions about human rights to water, shelter and dignity. The scene is a reminder of a society that has failed to support the marginalised in it.
