This outstanding group exhibition in Gallery on Leviseur displays a series of new artworks in a diverse range of mediums created by the five winners of the 2017 Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition – Mandi-Anne Bezuidenhout (winner), André Rose (runner-up), merit-winners David Molapisi and Louis Krüger and public choice winner Jessica Hansen.
With a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Mandi-Anne is well known for her strong conceptual installation art as well as her photography, characterised by a good dose of social commentary. As a medical doctor and a champion for public health service André’s photos and paintings frequently focus on marginalised individuals in society. Louis, who also has a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, is a cinematographer, photographer and graphic artist that dazzled judges with his digital photomontages for the competition. David is well known in Bloemfontein for his excellent sculptural works while Jessica’s appealing ceramic works also leaves the viewer with much to contemplate.
