Visual artists in the Free State are working hard on applying the final touches to their artworks for this year’s Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition, writes Elretha Britz in Volksblad and on Netwerk24.

Britz interviewed Adéle Opperman and Lyrene Kuhn, two Bloemfontein based artists who will be entering this year’s competition, who shared fascinating details around the artworks they are submitting. They are just two of many Free State artists who are counting down the days till the entries officially open on 4 September.

Kuhn said to Britz that she regards the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition as an “excellent opportunity for the unique art of the Free State” that, to her mind, emanates from a unique way of thinking. She and Opperman added that they feel overjoyed about the “fantastic exposure” it affords upcoming artists.
