Impumelelo conducts extensive annual research into the operational performance and empowerment status of some 20 000 companies, government institutions, parastatals, government agencies and NGOs across 150 different economic sectors. Thereafter only 7% of companies qualified as Top Empowered Organisations and Phatshoane Henney Attorneys qualified as one of the few organisations that are eligible for inclusion within the empowerment initiative.

The key points of reference when assessing entry criteria for Impumelelo’s Top Empowered companies are:
Black executive directors

Skills development
BEE procurement
Enterprise development

“It’s based on these key factors that Phatshoane Henney Attorneys has been positioned as a leader of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment and transformation in the South African economy, " says Ralf Fletcher, Impumelelo CEO.

Douglas Henney, Phatshoane Henney Chair, says that this certification is confirmation of the vision of the firm to set the standard as regards transformation in the legal sector. “Not that we are saying we have arrived. We still have much to do as a firm, but what is positive is that our efforts to date are being recognised and acknowledged as contributing towards empowerment. Our emphasis on empowerment and BEE standards is also a driving force in the Phatshoane Henney Group of Associated Law Firms and will help establish a new breed of South African law firm.”
