Mandela Day: Phatshoane Henney Attorneys warms young hearts at Lebone House

To spread some much-needed warmth on an icy cold Mandela Day, the candidate attorneys and staff of Phatshoane Henney Attorneys donated over 40 school windbreakers and goodie bags to underprivileged children at Lebone House just outside Bloemfontein, a non-profit organisation with which the firm has a standing relationship.

Lebone House is part of Lebone Village, a faith based non-profit organisation providing holistic care to vulnerable children and their families affected by poverty, with most of the children being orphaned due to the devastating effect of HIV/AIDS. Lebone House in particular is the care centre for children affected by HIV/AIDS, striving to provide an alternative family setting when there is no longer any family.

Once the caregivers at Lebone House identified the grave need for windbreakers, the staff of Phatshoane Henney Attorneys raised funds among themselves to purchase the jackets, in order to help provide much needed protection for the children against the bitter cold. Staff members then visited Lebone House on 18 July to personally present each child with a windbreaker and goodie bag filled with treats.

Douglas Henney, Director of Phatshoane Henney Attorneys, remarks on the privilege of being able to reach out to others on this international day of goodwill. “This Mandela Day is particularly special as it’s the first the world is celebrating since Nelson Mandela‘s passing. It’s an honour that our firm and staff could in a small way contribute to the legacy of Madiba by helping these children at Lebone House stay warm this winter.”

Avril Snyman, Administrator of Lebone Village, adds, “Lebone Village strives to be a light to all those living in darkness – but at times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from others. Phatshoane Henney Attorneys are the ‘others’ who have taken up the challenge of Nelson Mandela and got involved on Mandela Day by visiting our children with much needed windbreakers, as well as goodie bags for all! Thank you for blessing our children. I salute you for your generous soul by quoting Madiba himself: ‘There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.’”
